Previous research has shown that 50.3% of UAB students have felt hopeless in the past year (American College Health Association). Practicing self-care can aid in reducing stress and reduce this feeling of hopelessness (Active Minds). As Mental Health Ambassadors for the UAB Honors College and School of Public Health Program, we have been executing a social media campaign called “Self-Care Sunday” that encourages students to implement positive self-care habits. We used data insights from Instagram to measure our reach, impressions, likes, and profile visits for each post, which measured how successfully we were able to impact our audience. Our analysis of this data demonstrates increasing interaction with our posts over time, meaning our message of healthy self-care and stress management habits is reaching more people. The data also shows an increase in profile visits with each post, demonstrating that viewers of our posts are becoming more interested in the Mental Health Ambassadors program as a whole, which can further their education in other mental health topics. We have received a positive response to our posts, shown with the increase of interactions and reposts on others’ stories. Some of our future endeavors for the account is to become more connected with our followers by sharing interactive stories and posting more of ourselves, so they can see demonstrations of self-care.
