Abstract
In this paper, we address the influence of a global crisis and how immediate media coverage can be influenced by diplomatic relations. To reveal this relationship, we examined online publications from August 26th to August 28th on the Kabul Airport Attack by three global mass media organizations, Al Jazeera, BBC News, and RT. We inspected online publications for terminology and concepts that depict an organization's attitudes towards its home country’s diplomatic relations with the U.S through a comparative content and framing analyses. Furthermore, we synthesized and analyzed relevant research on media and terrorism, with an exclusive focus on the influence of media and framing. In our research, we found that content is relatively homogenous and is not affected by the organization’s home country’s diplomatic relations due to the following factors: limited information, global mass media culture, and the lack of framing.
