It has been understood that the current pandemic has been correlated with rising mental health issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and feelings of isolation. Students entering college in the midst of the pandemic have experienced a much different version of university than those who began pre-pandemic. With this we have noticed a gap in knowledge between the impact of the pandemic on the mental health of college students. For our project, we have focused on UAB undergraduate students and their challenges with online classes, safety measures, and hybrid courses. A saliva collection, Perceived Stress Scale Survey, and ELISA machine analysis have been and will be used to gather data supporting our hypothesis. This information will prove to be beneficial in understanding how universities can better prepare for events like this in the future, as well as creating a stronger mental health service for students.
